Our Pastor
We are so blessed at Christ Tabernacle to have the wonderful leadership of Pastor Thomas and Deborah Suey. Pastor Suey was born and raised in Pana, Illinois. Graduating from Pana High School, Pastor went on to attend Greenville College obtaining a Bachelor of Arts degree. He would further his education by receiving a Masters degree in Mathematical Education from the Southern Illinois University in Edwardsville. He also attended Gateway College of Evangelism. Pastor Suey first came to work in the Herrick church in 1972 to assist Rev. Eva Hunt. It was Rev. Hunt who mentored and implanted a passionate desire to serve the kingdom of God into Pastor Suey’s heart. Pastor Suey married Deborah Smithson from Nashville, Tennessee in 1977. The same year the Suey’s would come to Christ Tabernacle to pastor the church. Under the leadership of the Suey’s the church has flourished from a few dozen members to a membership of nearly 700 people. Sister Suey is active in the music ministry of the church and works alongside her husband forming a great ministry team. Pastor Suey has ministered in several countries, including Bulgaria, Greece, India, Romania, and the United Kingdom. The Suey’s have two children; Rachel (husband Brett) and Jereme, along with two grandchildren; Parker (3) and Tucker (1).

A Word From Our Pastor

On December 22, 1976, this Word of Prophecy came forth: “I have likened you to a tree that is in bud and about to blossom. And when you do blossom, the fragrance from the tree shall draw many.

From the nine people who gathered on that Sunday morning in may 1972, it is exhilarating to watch this prophecy unfold before our very eyes. Just as the Holy Spirit spoke, thus has God performed his promise. I enjoy watching the families of this congregation pour through the doors on Sunday morning. Equally satisfying is the dynamic praise and prayer that pours forth from the hearts of the worshipers. “God is a Spirit and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.."

From the main auditorium each Sunday, children and youth stream to various departments to learn under the pedagogy of Spirit-filled and Spirit inspired teachers. From this seedbed of learning, youth have been sent into various parts of the world for evangelism and ministry.

God has always challenged us to do those tasks which were beyond our own abilities and talents. The Apostle Paul experienced that same challenge and wrote these words: II Corinthians 3:5 “Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think anything of ourselves: but our sufficiency is in God..”

What you see at Christ Tabernacle is not the result of man’s abilities, but the work of the Holy Ghost. Hopefully we are producing something more than buildings. Souls are eternal and will live forever somewhere. That’s sobering. It is our goal to make men, women, children and youth fit for that eternal kingdom and produce productive citizens while on the earthly sojourn.
